I bought this product in an attempt to replace a Back To Basics Spiral Vegetable Slicer. I am sorely disappointed. The only Julienne option is by way of using a tiny plastic lever to pop up some very close together little wires in front of the blade. Picture a wire brush. These wires pretty much just mush up the vegetable because they are so fine and close together. Also, if you thnk you'll just not use the julienne option, think again. When trying to use only the blade to make slices, you have to hold down the lever that raises the julienne because the direction of the turning slicer mechanism pushes up the wires. Since most of us have only two hands, this is nearly impossible to do. One hand must hold the bowl in place while the other hand turns the handle. If you can place your hand just so on the bowl, you might be able to reach the toggle with one finger to keep the silly little julienne wires from popping up and ruining your slices, but this whole process is so frustrating I don't recommend torturing yourself with this serious waste of time, money, and effort.
