Update: I've been using this for about two weeks now on a near daily basis. I am still very happy with it but here are a couple of notes:
1. The amount of water suggested in the manual for brown rice is way off (1.3 for each one of rice). 3.3 for each one of rice seems about right for small amounts. This cooker does work well with as little a 1/2 cup of rice. Maybe a little less water for larger amounts since the same amount of water boils of as steam whether you are cooking one cup or seven. You do lose a fair amount as steam. Most non-computerized rice cookers boil briskly -- they don't simmer.
2. You do need to unplug the unit when not in use as it will be in warm mode even if the pot is not inserted.
3. Cleaning is not a problem as long as you put some water in and let it soak during your meal. I does stick usually on the bottom a little bit, but has never burned or even gotten brown. That's probably why almost all rice cookers have a nonstick coating in the pot. But who want to cook on a surface that is manufactured with chemicals that are classified a likely cancinogens.
4. It takes about 35-40 minute for brown basmati rice. This is the only kind we eat. It is much more flavorful than regular brown.
